Lessons from queer & ethnic minority organisations: insights for health services
Organisations representing queer and ethnic minority communities have extensive experience supporting their members in navigating Norwegian health services.
Queer people with ethnic minority backgrounds often face specific challenges in the health system. These challenges can affect both newly arrived individuals and those who have lived in Norway for many years. Their intersectional experiences are not always recognised in a public system largely designed for the majority population. Meanwhile, member organisations representing diverse queer and ethnic groups are offering advice and practical help to their members in navigating the public health system, and when dealing with challenges faced by the members. We aim to share the rich experiences of the organisations and hope to reach public health services and anyone who is interested in learning about structural barriers in the system with this important panel discussion.
In this panel discussion, we invite everyone interested to learn about these experiences and hear from organisations such as Skeiv Verden about how to improve the understanding of the target group and how the health system can respond in a better way to the needs of these communities.
